Last Friday, RCA Records president and COO Tom Corson announced the closure of long running subsidiary label Jive Records. Though Jive housed a number of massively successful pop acts–with artists like Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, ‘N Sync, and the ever so down with it Miley Cyrus–the label also played host to some of Hip-Hop’s titans, including KRS One and Boogie Down Productions, A Tribe Called Quest, E-40, and UGK. You should never really need an excuse to bump UGK, but the demise of Jive and the continued downsizing of the music industry seem like solid reasons to break out a UGK classic. Ride out to “Diamonds and Wood’ and pour one out for Jive.
