Tuesday marked the release of the latest and greatest in basketball console games, NBA 2K12. With the NBA lockout still raging on, the team at 2K Sports made the wise decision to emphasize the legends of the game, producing covers featuring Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. So naturally, a game that pays homage to the heroes of the past two decades should have some equally timeless musicians, right?
Indeed 2K Sports read our minds, enlisting one of hip-hop’s iconic duos, Smif-n-Wessun, and the equally acclaimed MC Pharaohe Monch, to bring some gravitas to the soundtrack with “Shout the Winners Out” (Brooklyn’s own Skyzoo also jumps on the track). Admittedly, the track’s production (courtesy of Illmind) is fairly uninspiring, but what’s really important here is the pairing of legendary lyricists with a classic game. Grab your copy of the game ASAP, then hop on Xbox Live so you can suffer a beat-down at the hands of yours truly.
