It’s 2011. When you spit over a beat that a lot of hip-hop fans have heard, it’s pretty easy to get overlooked. Luckily, NRK’s Jay Cue shot this directly to my inbox and Jay Cue is dope. Jay rips Juelz Santana’s “Mic Check,” providing an impressively impassioned performance. While he doesn’t quite make the beat his own (which would be a tall order for any emcee, considering how closely the instrumental is associated with its previous owner), Jay certainly provides ample reason for you to check out his equally excellent and entirely original debut, Pyramid Life.
