A few days late posting this, but post-worthy nonetheless. After stopping down in Fort Greene, BK to visit Spike Lee at his pop up shop, the only adequate move for one to make would have been to hop on the A train down to Flatbush in hope of seeing Black Star perform at a “Block Party” styled mini-concert. Unfortunately, Talib was unhappy with the stage’s organization or the lack thereof. Someone realized Joell Ortiz stays in Brooklyn heavy and was merely a text message away. I imagine the convo went like this:
Joell: (responding) Yaowa
Person trying to save their job : Joell, Kweli isn’t showin up to the concert. We need someone to come keep it real Brooklyn! Could you fill in??
Joell: YAOWAAAA!
or he could have just been scheduled to perform… Either way, check out the (amateur) video of Ortiz paying tribute to both the late great Big and Brooklyn respectively.
