So here’s my theory on the Based God, you all tell me if this is crazy. In Lil B’s interview in our most recent issue (if you haven’t read it, GET YOURSELF TO A NEWSSTAND NOW), the controversial rapper makes the claim that his album I’m Gay was actually a mixtape, the type of recording that he makes on an everyday basis. Of course this remark totally overlooks everything dude said before the album dropped, making it out to be a lifestyle-changing album. It sure seems like he’s trying to deflect from the fact that the album didn’t have the impact he wanted it to by labeling it a mixtape, some afterthought that he puts out in his sleep. Unfortunately to make this maneuver work, he has to put out mixtapes ALL THE TIME, which is my roundabout way of saying, here’s Lil B’s new mixtape, Black Flame, two and a half weeks after his last one. Could one of the great creative surges in the history of music spring from a desire to make people forget about I’m Gay? You be the judge.
