Perfect timing. The New York Observer put out an extensive profile of Warner Bros.’ new signee (and yes, Tommy Hilfiger’s son) Rich Hil yesterday; if you’re still writing dude off, um, here’s your chance to get shit straight.
RESPECT.’s Nick Williams sat down with Rich in Prohibit NYC, and if one thing’s clear, it’s that you’ll surely be hearing a lot more from Trippy Ricky soon enough. Though he hadn’t heard of them before receiving the call from Canada, Rich and the Weeknd have more than a few records already in the can — not to mention an entire mixtape with Lex Luger. You heard it here first, those Luger tracks are fire. I’ve never heard anyone ride a Lex Luger beat the way Rich does. Rather than clamoring to make his voice heard over Lex’s massive instrumentation, Rich sounds darker, vulnerable.
We got all bases covered — the Weeknd, Lex, the collaborations with “not Kid Cudi,” whiteness, drugs, tattoos, breakfast cereal. Check it out.
