Pete Monsanto, Def Jam’s official photographer, checked out the White Girl Mob last night at the Highline Ballroom in NYC. Now we get to view Kreay Kreay through his lens:
Here’s what he had to say about the show (sent through email):
I didn’t know what to expect when I got to Highline Ballroom last night in NYC. My nephew who is 18 years old had told me that KreayShawn is the latest “KreayZe” among all of the girls in his age bracket. So about 5 days ago I went to YouTube to start my research on her; much to my astounding shock her song “Gucci Gucci” has close to 12 million views. Even as I am writing this email, the video of her performing last night has close to 25,000 views already. KreayShawn sold out NYC and proved that the culture is moving in a very ambitious direction. I teach my nephew about Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Pharcyde and other great hip-hop of the 80’s and 90’s and he gets to show me KreayShawn, such irony. Lol. I had a lot of fun seeing what she was about and actually found myself bouncing. To be about the culture is to be about the culture. I watched DJ Enuff and his Protege DJ Quiz (A good friend of mine, both from Hot 97 who are great HIP-HOP heads) witnessing the same thing I did. She has a huge following. You can’t really ignore her even if you’re a hater.
