Before a headlining set of Illmatic in its entirety at the upcoming Rock The Bells ’11 international festivial series, Nas sits down with Fuse.tv for an exclusive interview to reflect on his crowning achievement of the classic 1994 debut album.
While the story of hip-hop’s critically acclaimed albums in history never gets old, the Queensbridge native breaks down the process of recording Illmatic, acknowledging the strength and inspiration of his homeboys from the block while they witnessed the greatness that was unfolding. By merging the streets with articulation, the album has etched its place as distinctively NY’s style.
Nas also takes a trip down memory lane about working with the finest producers in the industry. He recalls DJ Premier’s beat concepts playing an integral part of the album’s smooth and mellow sound, as well as delving into Q-Tip’s original idea for “One Love.”
