No, west coast readers, you aren’t seeing things; Anthony Lister really is taking over the city of angels. Lister recently spent time in London tagging the streets and setting off his Fan Boy show at the Pictures on Walls (POW) showroom. Now, fresh from his British travels, the Australian urban artist is making his mark on Los Angeles.
Over the past week, Lister has thrown up at least seven pieces on walls all over L.A. While so many works in one city may seem overwhelming, Lister manages to not exhaust the technique and signatures of his methodology. There is no shortage of content, as the new pieces range in subject matter, color and style, and include fan boy murals (with a shoutout to his show at POW), anarchy symbols, and unique character faces.
Our favorite of the bunch is a piece he threw up on the wall at De La Barracuda (pictured below). The work features a painted character finishing the graffiti tag of “Graffiti is Art & if Art is a Crime then Let God Forgive Us All! -Lee 1979”. While not meticulously detailed, colorful, and immediately eye-catching like some of the other pieces Lister has put up in L.A., this one still manages to speak volumes. We love the sentiment behind the statement, and we’re with you all the way, Lister. So enjoy the new murals, California kids; you sure are lucky.
More after the jump.
