On the same day that Spin proclaimed “the re-birth of instrumental hip-hop”, Guilty Simpson jumps in on “Trust”, the first single off Paul White’s Rapping With Paul White (due out August 23rd). The collaboration makes perfect sense, of course; before “instrumental hip-hop” needed to be reborn, Guilty was one of the late great J Dilla‘s favored MCs, so a return to old-school instrumental culture should mesh well with his mic. First indications from this track prove, predictably, that it does.
