About time street art started getting some protection.Remember when Banksy‘s pink gorilla was accidentally whitewashed? Well, looks like it’s doing some good for the artists in Bristol, UK.
Steve Comer, Councillor in the Southwestern English town, has suggested creating a citywide register and requiring permission to alter such pieces (similar to a plan proposed back in 2009). “Public art has become an important part of our lives in Bristol,” he said, “and, where possible, should be protected.”
That said, not every random piece of graffiti will be protected, but the idea is to save those masterpieces that have been made by world-renowned artists like Banksy so that incidents like this don’t happen again.
