While it may seem like you’ve seen Kanye West’s face all over the media recently, you haven’t really read much of his words. Kanye has hit the radio and television airwaves but has remained elusive in the printed press, save for that issue of XXL that he designed himself. Kanye projects the ideology that if anything needs to be said he’ll say it himself, opting for his Twitter account and waving off New York Times interview requests. So while he may seem prolific what with his incredible Twitter feed and recent Today Show brash, it is surprising how little we actually know about the creative part, the musical part, the part that is really earning these 10-point reviews.
Kanye is usually reserved about his creative process. He used to have a reputation and still does have a tendency to keep his instrumentals locked up, with the exception of “The College Dropout” instrumental LP. For “Late Registration,” MTV2 aired a little known making-of special. But “Graduation” and “808s”? Footage of Kanye in the booth is rare. That’s what makes Complex’s trip down to to Kanye’s Hawaiian “rap camp” so special. The man’s persona has eclipsed his craft, 1,000,000 records or not, and the piece is mandatory reading for anyone who plans on purchasing the album which drops today. Check it out here.
And an added bonus–Kanye drops the line “No one man should have all that power” back in 2002 during a studio session with Rhymfest. At 6:53.

Thanks to the douche-bags that put the words throughout the whole video. I guess your saving it for the Kanye West documentary that’ll never come out, right??
