Over at Conscientious, Joerg Colberg—in a post sensationally titled “We traffic in human bodies”—wrote on the increasing rumble regarding rumors of impropriety behind the scenes at some of Terry Richardson’s photo shoots. (Colberg’s post is pretty much a good place as any to get up to speed on the currents of the issue at this moment.) Because we posted about Richardson earlier this week, we’d like to make it clear that RESPECT. is about showcasing beauty, but not at the expense of anyone’s freedom, respect or humanity. We don’t believe that you can separate the fruit from the tree. While we’re not saying yay or nay to any of the allegations floating around—we’re not equipped to, nor is it our function; and these matters are too complex for those of us dealing with secondary sources and hearsay to adequately comment on—we will say that we welcome conversations that seek to investigate the nature of art and the processes by which it is created.
