Photo Recap: Summer Jam 2014, The Super Bowl Of Hip-Hop
Welcome to our very own virtual tour of Summer Jam 2014. We sent Trevor Sage-El to get the low on the action-packed day’s events, and what he came back with were stories and images to last much longer. Without further ado, here’s a photo recap of Summer Jam, along with some quotes from Trevor himself.
Summer Jam Fans
“I’m not big into shooting live shows, but couldn’t miss the Super Bowl of hip-hop this time. The energy from the fans and the artists was insane. It was great to see the true passion of Hip Hop from both sides. My press credentials didn’t come through at the last second, which actually worked out for the better–I had to call in some favors and I wound up back stage. The real show was in the nose bleeds and the floor seats with the true fans. I also got kicked out of the photo pit, which I’m not mad at, because all the Hot97 photos looked the same. I literally fought for each shot, I think it gave everything a unique feel.”
“Something else really interesting to me was witnessing all the supporting roles and how hard everyone was working to make this biggest and dopest show in hip-hop work. Not many people get to see the set changes, the bullshit security has to deal with, the technical meltdowns, and everthying that is orchestrated behind the scenses. I saw it, I respect it, and I’m proud of how far hip-hop culture has come.”
Black Dave“He definitely made the show interesting from the sidelines. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was killin’ the festival stage next year”
Childish Gambino “Childish Gambino definitely out performed everyone and had the dopest set.
“For me, the best part of Trey Songz’ performance was when he took off his shirt: I looked into the cowed and literally saw girls throwing themselves on the ground.”
50 Cent I definetly saw Slow Bucks with a chain back stage, and saw 50 wearing it on stage.”
“I missed the scuffle. But this is NY though, that Slow Bucks thing was gonna go down.”
Nas & 50 Cent
“You’re probably wondering–where’s the Young Money pictures? Nothing against Drake, Wayne, and the family, but the show really should have ended with Nas. We’re in NY for god’s sake. Actually, for real, my battery died. Ha!”
