Things haven’t been smooth between Drake and Funk Flex since Funk Flex joined Meek Mill in accusing Drake of using ghostwriters. Last year he referenced Quentin Miller’s work for Drake’s “Know Yourself,” “Used To,” “10 Bands,” and “R.I.C.O.” Drake eventually responded to Flex with a undercover shot on “Charged Up” and dropped a Grammy-nominated diss called “Back to Back.”
“They tellin’ lies on Hot 97, that’s how it goes,” raps Drake. “I told them ‘Fire Funk Flex and then I’ll come and do your show’ / Plus, me and Kanye, we just left out the studio / My first night in the Garden, I’m feeling like D. Rose,” raps Drake during his first NYC tour stop of the Summer Sixteen Tour. But that wasn’t the end of it.
And Funk Flex had something to say. Saturday, Funk Flex brought up the famous story dealing with the blackberry footage. That video shot by Cipher sounds inside the Hot 97 studio. During the video, there was footage of Drake using a smartphone during a freestyle in 2009. “The video was never suppose to leak” says Flex. Flex claims that video was never supposed to be released because the team didn’t want to embarrass Drake, even though Drake’s team supposedly pressured Cipher to release the footage and eventually helped spread it, just because Drake wanted to use it as evidence that he writes his own raps.
Flex goes on to say “You wanted people to think that you write your bars, you wanted people to think that on that BlackBerry those [words] were yours, and that you wrote that” Flex said. “I see through you. And that’s why you so angry.” And after Drake’s third Madison Square Garden performance, Drake decided to send more shots towards Flex. He said shout out to all the “real” NYC DJ’s, keeping New York music alive, I don’t mean going and playing the songs four weeks late and s–t trying to sound cool, late night, primetime on the radio, seven to nine o’ clock talking all that bullshit,” Drake said. “Shout out to the real DJs who know real music and shit like that. Shout out to New York City. It’s love, you already know.”
