Earlier this year in January, Rich The Kid & Kendrick Lamar teased a short clip on social media, indicating they have a collab on the way. Although a release date wasn’t set in stone, Rich finally drops off some audio dope with “New Freezer” via Zane Lowe‘s World Record on Beats 1 today.
In an interview with Zane, Rich explained how the song came together. “I played two records. I had just recorded “New Freezer” recently,” he said, explaining that Kendrick was immediately impressed by the track. “Right when he heard it, he’s like yo, who else on this song?! ‘Yo I gotta get on this one, this sh*t dumb!”
On the track, RTK raps in his usual, rapid triple-time flow and Kendrick offers a combination of sped up raps and slowed harmonizing.
“It was shocking. Just to hear Kendrick on a song with me,” Rich said of his first time getting Kendrick’s verse via email. It’s clear that Rich The Kid & TDE’s front-man make a solid unit with this one.
Furthermore, this record most certainly gives us something to look forward to in Rich The Kid’s upcoming project(s).
