Rising artist out of Canton, Ohio Trippie Redd is making his name known as he blends genres of music together, giving us his in own mixture of timeless music that is quickly captivating the youth of America. The 1400-year-old artist continues to break new ground with his new-age, catchy melodies, from his notable single “Love Scars” to the more recent “Chair Falling.” Simply put, this love-scarred rock star is destined to have a prosperous career.
Trippie also boasts a strong work ethic, completing five full projects that are each unique from the others while bringing his listeners closer and closer into the world of 1400. Over the weekend, I had a chance to link up with Trippie Redd after his exciting Fool’s Gold Day Off performance. As we sat in a hazed-out SUV, we chatted about the show and what’s going on in his life. Trippie didn’t have a problem with keeping it real, either…check out what the bonafide star had to say below.
RESPECT.: What’s up Trippie Redd? Thank you for meeting with us and we appreciate speaking with you. How’s your visit to N.Y. this time around?
I f***s with New York. I love it out here. It’s cool, even though I don’t really like the city too much, but that’s just always been me. City areas like downtown L.A. I hate, and I’m from a city — a small one though. But yeah I f***s with it though lowkey.
RESPECT.: So how are you feeling about playing Fool’s Gold Day Off?
It’s my first time playing this event so I’m honored to play Fool’s Gold Day Off. I liked it. It’s good to know I had fans out there and the show was cool, I vibed on it.
RESPECT.: Apart from doing your performance today, is there anyone performing that you’re excited to see?
I was excited to see Ski Mask and PnB Rock perform. I f***s with them boys.
RESPECT.: We see that you will be featured on XXXTentacion‘s long awaited album 17. We also see that you’ve connected with Post Malone and Fredo Santana. Can you tell us more about those relationships/collaborations?
[XXXTentacion] just hit me up. Before he hit me up I had been talking to Ski Mask, so it tied up to XXXTentacion finding me on his own. He heard my music and told me that he f***s with me and eventually we just started talking and became best friends after that. So working with him was like working with myself and felt like we had been friends forever. So it was easy, he gave off the same energy I gave off — it’s like we the same but opposites, so overall it was cool
Yeah me and Post Malone, we got music coming soon, that’s my bro-zay, and with Fredo I’m working on getting some music with him soon. I’ve become really cool with Fredo and the whole Glo Gang…shoutout to Chief Keef.
RESPECT.: What would you say has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a rising artist who is making his name and brand known throughout the music industry?
I’ve learned that the key to all of this is just to be yourself, [brand] yourself and your team the right way and stay to being yourself and not copying nobody. That’s the way to make it. If you it, you it.
RESPECT.: Funny question I have to ask if you’re open to sharing with our RESPECT. audience…what’s been your craziest fan encounter story to date if you have one?
My craziest fan encounter. Oh my god, as a matter fact I was just in Miami for two shows where I brought XXXTentacion for the show, and after that we ended up going to this big ass Donald Trump resort area and Chris King made a snap of me at the hotel. We invited some girls, but three little kids came up out of nowhere. They were so young — like 8 or 10 — and they pulled up on bikes, saying things like “oh my god I’m shook” and “I’m shaking” and “bro it’s Trippie.” We had a bike race with them too.
RESPECT.: What can we expect to see from Trippie Redd in the upcoming months?
More music. I’m going to keep expanding different varieties of music and going through different genres of music. Exploring and expanding my sound.
