It has been revealed by his manager that actor-comedian Charlie Murphy — older brother of Eddie Murphy — has passed away early Wednesday morning at the age of 57. He has been battling leukemia and was undergoing chemotherapy…reportedly, his death was a shock to his family, who thought his health had been improving.
Aside from his superstar relative, many remember Murphy from his co-starring on Dave Chappelle‘s now-defunct Chappelle’s Show. Two of the show’s most memorable skits involved Murphy telling crazy stories of past encounters with Rick James and Prince (below), E! True Hollywood Story-style. Murphy also co-wrote (and appeared in) some of brother Eddie’s films, including Norbit and Vampire In Brooklyn.
Murphy leaves behind three children — two of which were with his wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy, who passed from cervical cancer back in 2009.
