Currently, Washington, D.C. and its surrounding suburbs are thriving with incredible Hip-Hop talent, led by the likes of GoldLink, Logic, Jefe (Shy Glizzy) and — of course — Wale. There’s a new wave of emcees that look to follow in the aforementioned artists’ footsteps of success — including G’Town Wayne, who names himself after the historic D.C. neighborhood and has garnered a level of respect in his city not seen for many of his peers.
Last week, he liberated a piano-driven, laid-back cut titled “FaceCard,” which sees Zaytoven-esque production from Suavebeatsss and creative direction from famed artist/fashion designer Wizzolx (who presumably had a hand in the song’s dope artwork, which can be seen above). Wayne also explained the meaning behind the track, which centers upon earning his just due after grinding for so long:
“FaceCard” is when you reach a level to when you don’t have you introduce your name. I’m just blessed. When creating this record, I felt as though I’ve worked the music s*** for so long to the point where they have no choice but to respect and accept my presence.
Stream “FaceCard” below via Apple Music/Spotify and be on the lookout for Wayne’s forthcoming project, said to be dropping soon. For more from G’Town Wayne, you can also check out his previously-released efforts The Golden City EP and 2.5k Organic.
