A cult following was conceived and disseminated in a matter of months, maybe weeks, when Kodak Black was sent off to jail for 120 days for an “outstanding” amount of warrants against him. #FreeKodak was the mantra and popularized hashtag during his time away, as his music was reaching a wide variety of angles in the hip-hop community, being branded in the same genre/category as rappers like Lil Yatchy and 21 Savage, amongst others.
Relatively fresh out of jail, Kodak went over to The Breakfast Club to discuss his self-proclamation as the best rapper alive amongst other events in his life, all while donning a ski mask which made his only idiosyncratic feature the gold teeth which shined at abrupt moments throughout the interview- Kodak was speaking in silence and one-word answers.

XXL comprised an intricate summary of Kodak’s boldest moments, the bulk of which (perhaps even all) occurring during the latter half of 2016 and the first 13 days of 2017. The above video, where he calls out Lil’ Wayne, is one of many events the publication lists on their compilation, alongside Kodak’s now infamous Instagram live video where he exposes himself, a tweet, shown below, where he claims he’s bigger than 2Pac and Biggie, amongst plenty of other things. Check out that list here.
I’m Better Than Pac & Biggie

The difference in questions were irrelevant and incognizant of Kodak’s state of mind; when asked about his choice of moniker or his Instagram video, the response was almost guaranteed to be a blank stare into the room, followed by a delayed answer.
Youtube commenters were split between declaring its status as a publicity stunt or genuine demeanor. “I’m not a big kodak fan or whatever but it’s obvious that this was a publicity stunt/protest against radio. The guy isn’t that f*cking stupid smh,” said one person, while another said, “He either mentally ill or on drugs.”
