As Young Thug continues his ascent to greatness (much in part thanks to 300 Entertainment), he’s also laying a solid foundation for his right-hand man/YSL Records artist Duke, who’s been liberating consistent street cuts alongside him for years (ex. check out the recent standout collaboration “Webbie“, as well as the Summer mixtape release Uber). Now, the Atlanta emcee is gearing up for the release of Life In The Hills; before that, we get to check out the new track “Billboard”, which features Wiz Khalifa and Dave East.
The multi-coast, laid-back cut certainly gives off a proper California vibe, thanks to production by Wheezy and thematic lyrics from all three artists…Duke himself keeps things melodic and reflective, especially in the song’s opening hook:
Mama we made it to billboards
Thank the lord, I’ma keep praying for it
They told me stay focused, stay real boy
The streets playing dirty, get killed boy
This s*** is for real boy, did all that s*** with no deal boy
N***as is fakin’, they gettin’ monopoly money
When I was broke
They was just laughin’ at me like something was funny
Now I’m at three years on my d***
Ran that s*** up, now we rich
We put that money right before a b***h
Knock em off, I’m callin’ hits
Now I got twenty whole K on my wrist
Diamonds, my neck, on my fist…
