It’s not a surprise to many that Drake’s VIEWS has reached number one on the Billboard 200 Chart. This album has been anticipated for years, since he dropped Nothing was the Same. Now that it is here, people just can’t “Controlla” their emotions. By making the album available April 29th through the iTunes Store and streaming on Apple Music, he allowed his fans a week to get “Hype” about the album before he released it in stores and through other online resellers.
Because this is only Drake’s sixth time peaking the Billboard 200’s, he makes this seem like “Childs Play” as he reaches the top in only a matter of weeks, passing Beyonce, Prince (may his soul rest in peace) and Rihanna. For those who don’t understand how Billboard works, here is a quick description on how VIEWS is leading according to Billboard:
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new May 21-dated chart (where Views is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, May 10.
Dominating the Billboard 200’s is quite an accomplishment, especially the amount of times Drake has done it. But with all the controversy circled around it, many question Drake’s “Fire and Desire” to be the best rapper of our time with all the singing he has been doing lately. With his fan base and a tour in motion, it’s no doubt that he’ll have some time for “Redemption” for those who want more rapping rather than his recent “Pop Style.” However, others are “Still Here” for the singing even if it isn’t “Too Good.”
Whatever it is he does, as long as Drake keeps smashing out the hits, many will be there to listen, “U Wit Me?”
