The last time the New York Mets appeared in the playoffs, they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 7 of the NLCS in 2006.
After finishing 79-83 last season, Mets pitcher Matt Harvey is determined to change the team’s trajectory this year.
The Mets ace missed all of last season with Tommy John surgery and is excited to be back. Currently with a 6-4 record, he noted that the mindset to start the season strong started in training camp. “This spring training was a lot different than the ones I had been to in the past,” Harvey told Respect-Mag while participating in promos for theDelta Dugout Program, a sweepstakes that gives fans a chance to win Mets-related prizes.
“We all had the idea that we were going to win and there was no other way.”
At 34-30, the Mets are first in the National League East. The Amazings will most likely make the playoffs barring any major slide at the bottom half of the season.
Online sportsbook TopBet has the Mets pegged at +1000 to win the NL pennant.
The young Mets squad has had some struggles early in the season. How does the team handle adversity? “Even when we have a down series, it seems like everybody comes back in positive,” he said.
Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson said earlier in the season that in order for the Mets to be successful, they needed to have fun and stay positive. Harvey subscribes to that theory and has a similar line of thinking. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen him get mad,” he said. “He’s one that does an amazing job of that and stays positive.
With the return of a healthy captain David Wright, Juan Lagares and Lucas Duda, coupled with an impressive pitching core that features returning ace Matt Harvey, right-handers Bartolo Colon, Dillon Gee and reigning Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom, the sky’s the limit.
