Earlier today [Thursday, July 21], it was reported that Star Trek Beyond actress Zoe Saldana has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. According to People Magazine, this is an illness Saldana’s mother and sister also have. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is a disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland. The body is tricked into believing it is already infected due to difficulty filtering toxins, causing inflammation.

The health scare came after a visit from the doctor. The actress reveals to Net-A-Porter’s The Edit, “I had a great time in my 20s. Then your doctor says you’re losing calcium in your bones. What the f**k is that?! I would hear those conversations with my mom and grandma, thinking I’d never get there. ‘I’m going to live forever!’ But all of a sudden it hits you. I s**t you not, it’s from night to day.”

To combat this illness, she has eliminated diary and gluten from her diet. Her Italian native husband Marco Perego, who recently became a U.S. citizen also supports her by following the same routine. Saldana revealed last year on Facebook she suffered from weak joints and thyroid trouble after giving birth to her now 20-month old twin sons Cy Aridio Perego-Saldana and Bowie Ezio Perego-Saldana.

Despite the health scare, Saldana is still a woman on the go. Her upcoming films include Avatar 2, 3, and 4, I Kill Giants, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Live by Night co-starring Ben Affleck. All film are expected to be released between 2017 – 2022.

Lip Sync Battle always seems to bring celebrities out of their element and putting on a great performance for the audience. On the latest episode, Star Trek Beyond star, Zoe Saldana came out swaying on a swing with her silver, metallic outfit inspired by the iconic TLC’s “No Scrubs,” music video. After showing homage to the late and legendary Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez’s verse on the song, she was joined with TLC’s own Chilli and T-Boz. How cool and memorable is that experience for Zoe? If you’re a fan of TLC or Saldana, you’re in for a treat! Even Chrissy Teigen showed love, with a condom taped on her glasses, which is way TLC promoted safe-sex back in the day.

Chili and T-Boz stayed after their guest appearance and watched as Zoe Saldana’s competitor, Zachary Quinto hit the stage. The other Star Trek Beyond star killed the stage as he took on Missy Elliot’s “Get Your Freak on,” literally an unexpected, draw dropping re-enactment. Quinto came out with the famous Missy short-cut hair doo and the full rhinestone embellished denim outfit.

Saldana also performed Twenty One Pilots “Stressed Out” and Quinto did George Michael’s “Freedom ’90,” with an appearance from Cindy Crawford. Check their performances below:

The annual Met Gala is known to be a night of fashion and last night did not disappoint.  The big event is always star-studded and a night to remember.  From Rihanna‘s 2015 canary-yellow Guo Pei couture gown, that trended for days to Beyonce leaving everyone breathless with her 2015 all sheer Givenchy Haute couture by Riccardo Tisci that slayed for days.  This past Monday, May 2nd was no different; there was some of best to some of not so best fashion that hit the red carpet.  The fellas were out, the couples were out, and the ladies were definitely ready to get the night turned up with the year’s theme “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.  Check out some of the electrifying moments of the night:

Set to release this April, Nina will follow the ‘Priestess of Soul’s’ life after her exile from France, showcasing her troubled reputation, alcoholism, and determination to get back into the spotlight.

Despite the powerful depiction of one of the Civil Right’s Movement most influential forces, controversy swarms around Saldana’s appearance. ‘The Guardian’ asserts that critics have taken shots at Saldana’s lighter complexion and Hispanic roots, suggesting that the role has been “awkwardly miscast” due to her prosthetic nose and darkened skin; some have insinuated that Saldana was depicting blackface.

Simone’s estate isn’t too pleased with the casting either. When Saldana first received the role in 2012, daughter Simone Kelly wrote “I love Zoe Saldana, we all love Zoe… From Avatar to Colombiana, I’ve seen those movies a few times. But not every project is for everybody. And I know what my mother would think. I just don’t get it.”

Kelly’s discontent of Saldana’s casting led to her suggesting ‘HTGAWM’s’ Viola Davis and ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’s’ Kimberly Elise, women who exhibit features as strong as her mother’s.

“My mother was raised at a time when she was told her nose was too wide, her skin was too dark,” Kelly said in her interview with New York Times. “Appearance-wise, this is not the best choice.”

To add more fuel to the fire, Nina Simone’s estate recently blasted  Saldana on the Twitter, telling her to “Keep Nina’s name out of mouth [for] the rest of her life.”

As a response to the Simone’s estate, Saldana uploaded the poster to movie on Instagram, leaving it captionless.

Since landing the role, Saldana has continuously combated critics. ‘The Guardian‘ noted that during her 2014 interview with HipHollywood, the ‘Avatar’ actress explained her decision by stating that she “knows who she is” and “she knows what Nina Simone means to her.” “It doesn’t matter how much backlash I will get for it,” Saldana told Allure in 2013. “I will honor and respect my black community because that’s who I am.”
