Whether it’s Mase resurfacing as a pastor or Common meeting Erykah Badu and going from snapbacks to kufis–Hip-Hop is a chameleon’s game. Understanding that art is a reflection of reality — or is supposed to be — buzzing up and comer Yank$ turns a spontaneous trip to the islands into what could be his breakout single in, “Abu Dhabi.”

Set to the tone of dormant flute melodies and a distorted guzheng — you know…. this sound — Yank$ absolutely floats over the track, switching cadences and flows like clothes on command, creating a feeling of comfortability throughout the track, which is a hard feat in today’s climate of microwave attention spans. Speaking on the making of the track, Yank$ said, “In spring 2015 I took a trip to Abu Dhabi & Dubai with my Uncle. The experience was one of those things I’ll have forever and when I found this beat, the producer coincidentally had the track named “Abu Dhabi” (shout out 808 Louie) and I decided to talk about my trip. Unlike some of these rappers I actually did everything I was saying in my raps.”

Continuing on what’s coming next, the young emcee noted, “I’m gonna be having a couple visuals dropping soon, I also just started working on my next mixtape so I’m gearing up for that journey as well and pumping out the shows here in LA. The next generation of rappers are beginning to take over. Between Joey Bada$$, Kendrick Lamar, Chance and his little brother, its clear that the talent level and competition for these MC’s has never been higher. The bars been raised, along with our expectations. I for one, as an audiophile, musician, and critic, have no time for bad music. So when I stumble upon GREATNESS, I feel the need to share it with y’all.

The LA born rapper known coast to coast as Yanks$ (a.k.a. Papi Yank$, a.k.a. Judge Banks, a.k.a. Joshua Tree) is one of the brightest stars coming up in the game today. With his laid-back, cali style swag, he’s been dominating the microphones and airwaves of New York since his emergence on the scene only a few months ago.

With the kind of music that makes you want to put your seat back, pick your blunt up, and cruise down the coast at 2 mph, at 2 AM, Papi brings some of the smoothest verses you’ve heard in a minute. His positive, feel-good flow can only be described as wavy, and his overarching message of love and RESPECT. separates him from the pack.

Still independently producing, still spittin’ the ill rhymes, still kickin’ it with the homies, Yank$ is a beacon for listeners who appreciate good fuckin’ music. Whether it be the head noddin’ stoner, the ahead-of-the-game hipster, or the hardcore thug, Yank$ is sure to have your rearview mirror vibrating and your head in the clouds. With only four OG tracks to date, the future is bright for this young lyricist, and all of us at RESPECT. are excited to watch him hone his skills even more.
