About 15 years ago, Woody Harrelson accidentally broke an ashtray in the back of a London taxicab, setting into motion a series of events that would land the actor in jail for a night. Harrelson has decided to use that night as the jumping off point for his directorial debut movie Lost in London, the first-ever feature film to be shot live at the exact moment it appears in cinemas.

The film is a deep, soul-searching comedy about a man who is struggling to get home to his family. Lost in London is written, directed and stars Woody and will be broadcasted, in real time, nationwide on January 19^th. The movie will shoot in London in the middle of the night local time. Its live theatrical broadcast will begin in at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast in more than 550 theaters. Lost in London has a 30 person cast including Owen Wilson and Willie Nelson who are longtime friends of Harrelson’s. The film will also have 14 different locations and be shot on one camera in one continuous take.

According to an EW article, in 2012 Harrelson said that he intended to write a play about the incident, but it would now appear to have metamorphosed into this complex film project. He told EW: “I love theatre and I love film and I really wanted to figure out a way to merge the two. Then I thought this particular story does occur sequentially and cohesively, so I thought I’d like to shoot it in real time, like live cinema or whatever you’d call it.” According to Deadline, the film will then be prepared for conventional release at a later date.

In a teaser for the film Woody says “No one has ever shot a movie and live broadcast it into cinemas at the same time,” Harrelson says atop of London’s Waterloo Bridge. He adds, with that Woody Harrelson wink, “No one’s ever been that stupid — until now.”

This first-of-its-kind film event will give audiences the unique opportunity to watch a film shot in real time. Following the feature presentation, Harrelson will participate in a live Q&A.

The (R)evolution of Immortal Technique, a documentary chronicling the life and career of the Harlem-bred emcee, is set to premiere two weeks from today at the Harlem Film Festival.  The trailer for the documentary has hit the Internet despite the lack of a concrete release date, but if the trailer is a precursor of what’s to come we’re in for a special film.  Additionally, there are a number of high profile cameos throughout the film, including Chuck D, Ice T, Woody Harrelson and more.  The IMDB description says it all though:

Immortal Technique emerged from prison a changed man. As his inner journey continues, he travels the world promoting a revolution of consciousness through hip-hop. His path from a troubled youth to a fearless revolutionary is an inspirational must-see
