Last month, Wave Matthews delivered his highly-anticipated project titled”Matthews 14:25“, a complete 5-track EP from start to finish. A week after it’s release, the CT-native held his first ever listening session in New York City. The event was hosted by Genius’ Head of Artist Relations, Rob Markman. Rob had collaborated with Wave on a track earlier in the year titled “Boring,” which garnered much success, especially with the ladies, so it was only fitting for the iconic journalist / rapper to anchor the interview.

The two sat and chopped it up for a few, speaking on the meaning behind the project’s title, Wave meeting Craigy F, how they started their collective #RIDGESZN, future plans and much more. Matthews then performed “Matthews 14:25” in it’s entirety, alongside a live band and brought out Craigy F one-time for their collab “Timeout.”

Wave was born in the Bronx, NY on October 20, 1991. Shortly after his parents decided to take a different approach and settled into their new home with him and his older brother in Connecticut. As years continued to go by, Alex developed a very good ear for musical instruments, melody, rhythm, and beats.

With a heavy influence in music from family and friends, Alex spent most of his teenage years improvising music from his Yamaha piano keyboard and went as far as learning how to use musical computer softwares by age 14. Alex would spend hours utilizing the Internet figuring out how to mix & master recording and composition off of a popular computer software called FL Studio. After more years of practice Alex began to create a name for himself locally.

His 4 years of college at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT was a wake up call for his dream of pursuing music. Graduating with a bachelors in Business Management, he would spend countless hours writing and recording music in his dorm room despite the heavy load of school work. He released 2 mixtapes under his former stage name “AG,” that were promoted around school and social media outlets, where he gained a lot of his following from.

His work ethic and drive continues today after numerous performances in front of 100+ crowds. After him and a group of close friends decided to form a music group “The Ridge” he has found much more success. Today, he returns with a new solo track titled “3:33” produced by Superstaar Beats.
