Theophilus London‘s new album “Vibes” is out now for our listening pleasure and to celebrate that release, he has given his fans a brand new visual for his Jesse Boykins III-assisted track “Tribe.” In the very dynamic and expressive video, London is seen busting a move alongside female dancers and showcases his love for dance. Theophilus London has been rather quiet with the music, but he might just be waiting to make a big splash with his second album Vibes. Kanye West is executive producer on the album and the artwork was photographed by Karl Lagerfield. Kanye also appears on one of the tracks “Can’t Stop”, where he delivers a dope verse over soulful production. The track and the album is filled with creative music that makes you feel good. Vibes is set to drop on November 4th, but listen to the Kanye assisted track below.

Theophilus London keeps outdoing himself. Right now, the 27 year-old Brooklyn-ite is gearing up to release his second full-length studio album, Vibes. The album will contain a track featuring none other than Kanye West himself (who also happens to be an executive producer on the album).

The track, entitled “Can’t Stop,” is a slow, soulful ballad in which West’s verse takes a stark departure from the caustic wailing of Yeezus  reminiscent of his The College Dropout days. In the snippet, you can hear Yeezy’s verse in it’s
entirety:

The snippet was originally released on SoundCloud but since deleted, “Can’t Stop” can be found on the Vibes pre-order on iTunes. Last week, London released “Tribe” feat. Jesse Boykins III, and before that, he had released another track entitled “Neu Law.” Vibes is slated for release on October 28.

For some artists, and perhaps even for Thomas, that is a gross insult. Our current musical climate is all about personality. For the recent Beyonce album, for example, which is currently drenched in hype, its hard to imagine a second life for the songs. Songs that are driven by personality tend to quickly lose their vitality; you won’t see such songs endlessly covered on Youtube. They tend to flicker away along with the personalities that drive them. Songs in which personality is suppressed have a different life trajectory.

V1bes is a collection of such songs. These tracks don’t attach themselves to you; the hooks don’t sink into you; these songs have a life of their own. They’ll wave at you and they’ll even cross the street and strike up a conversation if you invite them over, but they just don’t need you. This doesn’t mean that they’re purely ambient, made to be ignored. They just offer a different listening experience, one that is clearly more about the music and the feelings, the vibes that the music generates, than the person who made it. That’s not a paradigm for all music – some music needs personality (like rap, of course) – but for Thomas it works. Mission accomplished. Listen below.
