In addition to recently revealing that he is the mysterious emcee Captain Murphy and releasing a Captain Murphy mixtape a few weeks earlier, FlyLo also had time to team up with actor Elijah Wood to bring his surreal sound to the screen. As always, the result is more short film than music video.

Flying Lotus is set to release his newest album, Until the Quiet Comes on October 2nd. To say this album is much anticipated would be an understatement. The fans are itching, the critics are dying, and even the Airborne Lotus man himself is beyond excited to debut his first album in two years. But you don’t have to wait for the quiet to actually arrive before enjoying the first track from Steven Ellison’s yet-to-be-released compilation. Ahead of the first radio plays around the world, FL leaked “Putty Boy Strut,” which will be the debut song on the album. The track is accompanied by a super awesome animated film by surrealist illustrator Cyriak. Enjoy the song and the video blow!

The face of album promotion is changing. Posters, flyers, singles and magazine ads just aren’t enough anymore. Nowadays trailers and short films are quietly becoming more widely used. Sometimes these short films are fleeting, like some of the goofy vids for the release of The OF Tape Vol. 2, but other times they make a real impression. Flying Lotus’ short film, “Until the Quiet Comes,” taken from the name of his upcoming album, definitely falls into the latter category. Featuring music from the album and direction from Kahlil Joseph, this brief film is much more than a music video or a promotional trailer. Be sure to check out the offering below.

Flying Lotus must know that his upcoming album, Until the Quiet Comes, remains highly anticipated among fans and critics alike. To soothe over zealous enthusiasts, the experimental multi-genre producer has leaked “See Thru You,” the first song off the project to be heard in its entirety. Featuring the inimitable queen of leftfield R&B herself, Erykah Badu, “See Thru To U” is one of the many highlights of an album composed, according to Flylo, as “a collage of mystical states, dreams, sleep and lullabies.” Indeed the song’s initial heavy bass drums and exotic percussion foundation blends effortlessly with Miss Badu’s siren-like harmonies to create a song that soothes the ears and transcends the listener into a comforting dreamy place. The album is set for official release in early fall, as Flying Lotus will be starting his North American Tour on October 7th.
