Big Sean stops by Power 106 to talk about TWENTY88, Jhene Aiko, and more. Of course the vibes are heating up with Big Sean and Jhene Aiko, and that’s being said in a musical sense of the matter. Where things are not being heated up is in L.A., as The Cruz Show crew complain about the low temps in L.A; while Sean thinks they’re being a little bit ungrateful.

“You know where I’m from,” Sean said. It’s not cold out here, it feels good.

They then get into the success of Twenty88.

“I love this project. I think it’s a project that we’re gonna keep building on. It’s something that we can keep coming back to, that’s why we made it a group,” Sean said. I love the project, I think every song is fire.”

More than anything, this project was made “for the fans.” “It was something that just happened… It was cool to get into the studio as opposed to being in there by myself.”

Big Sean and Jhene Aiko have formed the group/duo of TWENTY88. The chemistry and easy-to-work-with spirit of the two have brought them together to do a collaborative project. They have songs like “I Know,” “Beware,” and “I’m Gonna Be” that truly show off how well they work together. Over the weekend, the two released a brand new short film to coincide with the release of their 8-track project. Cohesive at best, they are impressive on all cylinders. Producer Detail, zoned in with the duo and took their sound to the next level. We gain more of that chemistry in their new short film, Out Of Love.

Written and Directed by Lawrence Lamont, the video begins with that dark-scape look, backgrounded with “On The Way,” a KeY Wane-produced single which is actually being sent to radio as a single.

The short film captures the feelings and emotions that placed in the music. From Love, lust, happiness, sadness, jealousy, communication issues, etc, it’s all captured in the film.

Catching a 70’s aesthetics, they do a great job at combining two different times in life, and placing it into one. “Two Minute Warning” is one of the most intimate songs the two recored. Even better, they were able to grab K-Ci & JoJo, (Jodeci) giving off a true 90’s feel.

There aren’t really any duo’s quite like Jhene and Sean right now in the music industry, especially hip-hop. It’s definently a feeling that the culture needed.

The two decided the project was a great idea after fans would take to their social media and pitch the idea. Not procrastinating, the two thought “Why not?”

Chemistry and vibe: the two factors that cannot be forced and can’t be found in every person you encounter. Luckily for us, the listener, we benefit from the chemistry that Big Sean and Jhene Aiko possess with one another. We’ve seen their creativity shine on songs like “Beware” and “I Know,” and now they’re taking it even further in thought.

On April 1, Big Sean and Jhene Aiko will be putting out a joint-project under the name TWENTY88. There’s not too much information swirling around about how this came about, but there are a few factors.

Both Jhene and Sean were born in 19(88) and nine days apart from each other. As far as the “TWENTY,” perhaps it’s because they’re both in their twenties, who knows.

If you’ve watched their music video for “I Know,” you can see that the two spirits blend well together, making it easy to work and create.

“He just has a very good spirit, and he has great energy. Especially now that I’m meeting more and more people, you meet the people that just give you the wrong vibes, or you can just tell they’re so into themselves and it’s annoying,” Jhene told Complex last February. 

Jhene Aiko was present for Big Sean’s birthday celebration last Friday, showing that their friendship still breathes.

“You know, Jhene, that’s fam right there,” Big Sean said in an interview with 106KMEL’s Shay Diddy.
