When it comes to content in Hip-Hop, our subject choices range from money, girls and drugs–all the way up to things like civil unrest and injustices among different communities. Although the former has always grasped the attention of the mainstream, the latter has been the beating heart of a genre that just became the most influential in the country — and probably the whole world. Still, getting casual fans to dive into the minds of some of our genres smartest and most forward thinking individuals has been tough unless there’s an 808 and some colored dreads involved. It’s almost like when you can’t get your kids to eat their vegetables without doing an airplane motion or serving them on a superhero plate, it puts their mind at ease and ultimately, fools them into a more healthy choice. Never the one to leave the veggies hanging, Virginia native TwanLite returns to the scene with his awaited project, TLZ EP2: L.I.A.R.S.

TwanLite has been working on his new tape since 2015, after dropping his debut body of work. In a time where it seems as if those that are put in position to protect and serve are abusing their power while furthering generational hatred and racism, those with a voice have to make it a mission to speak out. Lite has made that his duty with his new body of work, having the artwork display a black boy slain in the middle of the street by the gun of a police officer, an image that’s been seen far too often lately. The controversial cover art was meant to portray the sad reality of what’s been happening to people of color since the beginning of time, and the project itself plays off of that notion as well. Titled as an acronym,  “L.I.A.R.S.,” which means (Life Is About Revolving Successfully), the messages encrypted in the artwork and the music are explained throughout all 17 featured tracks.
