2016 has been the year of socially conscious artists. Sure, we’ve seen plenty of other musicians in the past speak up about injustices in the community, but with everything that’s been going on recently, artists have been forced to be more vocal. Rappers like Vic Mensa and The Game have made strides in the community attempting to keep the peace. Brooklyn singer/musician Tomas Doncker looks to do the same thing in his sobering new track, “Church is Burning Down“.

Coming in off of his emphatic mixtape, The Mess We Made, “Church is Burning Down” is a track that was specifically inspired by the unfortunate Charleston Massacre events. Combining fast instrumentation and top notch lyricism, Doncker expresses his frustrations about how events like this could still be possibly happening in 2016. Doncker does a great job at painting a vivid picture that will surely have you thinking more deeply.
