Street Art: STATIC Marks Our Time Against Imposed Patterns

Tom & Craig aka STATIC are a British duo with an eye for patterns. Recently spotted in Tokyo, Japan, the group sarcastically conveyed their opinion on the depiction of street art through their piece “Little Vandal GK.” This piece was made in collaboration with Nick Walker’s (who created the butterfly). STATIC recently started their solo show, “The Conquest” at the Gallery Kawamatsu. They are now on their way to Hiroshima for “Walls” a group show.

Mixing colors and patterns, STATIC, denounces various aspects of our society such as consumerism (above).

The two artists find inspiration in contemporary revolutionary actions. They are heavily influenced by riots and strikes.

When we started off, one of the first screen prints we did was a piece to do with the Paris student riots, so we’ve always had a bit of an interest in that and tried to subvert it, see what we can do with it, make people look at it differently.

No matter how raw there theme is, they always bring some innocence into their work through the use of either a heart, a peace sign or a vibrant color.
