A while back we told you about the coolest new hotel room in France. Now, The New York Times Style Magazine published an interview with Tilt, the artist behind the design.

A lot of the graffiti that people have a problem with is the stuff on trains, garbage cans and doors. The thing is, if you apply even the ugliest, most basic graffiti to a different situation or environment — like a gallery or hotel — people’s perspective changes drastically.

Tilt, the world famous street artist, just completed his bold design of a room in the Au Vieux Panier hotel in Marseille, France. For his Panic Room, the apt title of the room, Tilt divided the room perfectly down the middle with one side covered entirely, literally not one open inch, with bright, lively, energetic graffiti and painted the other half stark white. Party on the right, serious on the left.

The hotel is made up of five rooms annually re-designed and re-conceptualized by commissioned artists and designers (for those who can’t make it to France, NYC’s Carlton Arms hotel has a similar concept).  See a sneak peek of all five concepts at Au Vieux Panier.
