Early Friday morning, there was breaking news that Dallas Cowboys rookie running back, Ezekiel Elliott, has been accused of domestic violence. Elliot’s girlfriend, Tiffany Thompson, took to Instagram to post pictures of her bruises, with a strong anti-domestic violence caption.

The running back denies these allegations, as well as his father coming to his aid. Elliott’s father was quoted saying, “[allegations are] completely false”. These allegations at the moment are just that, as Dallas police are investigating into the incident further. Elliott has not been charged with anything at the moment.

Nevertheless, the spotlight is now on the rookie in a bad way. He has yet to play a single snap in the NFL, but he  is already in the wrong side of the news. Also with the strong influx of domestic violence cases within the NFL, over the past few years, including Ray Rice, this could get bad for the young rookie really quickly.

Rice who was suspended the entire 2015-2016 season for his domestic violence case, has been reinstated since then but no team has taken him on. Teams consider it to be bad publicity and troublesome for the franchise. We’ve also seen Johnny Manziel falter with a streak of law breaking, including domestic violence. He has now found himself out of a job.

Although there is much more investigation to be done, it is clear that the League offices will be following this manner closely. They now have received a reputation for domestic violence, and at the end of it all, it is a business. They will protect that business at all cost. The Cowboys have also received their reputation for taking on troubled players, like Greg Hardy. Hardy was in a domestic violence situation two years ago, which resulted in his termination from the Carolina Panthers. Dallas in turn, gave Hardy another chance, and they may be in the process of doing it again.
