New music aside, she’s recently proven that twice: once during a visit to the Berlin-based COLORS studio (where she delivered a live rendition of “Unemployed“) and while hanging with legendary DJ Tim Westwood in London.

Another week, another awesome new single from Tierra Whack (with a Zane Lowe premiere to boot, which is interesting for this independent artist). Check out “Unemployed” below, which sees her taking a break from the soul and R&B to deliver some prison bars for your pleasure (partly thanks to her mother, as you’ll hear in the Beats 1 clip).

So that song is about me hating LA so much. And you know, because you come to LA for the first time, you’re like, oh it’s nice, but then you realize how industry it is and it just, I mean, no place feels like home, of course, which is Philly for me. But every time I’m in LA, I’m doing work. I’m working… But I turned that into me saying, if I was to meet a guy in LA, I wouldn’t take him serious because it’s Hollywood, everybody’s an actor. Everybody wants to be a star. So that’s the approach I had with that song.

Tierra Whack is back! Last year, she pumped new life into Hip-Hop and R&B (and music in general) with Whack World, a genre-bending, 15-minute masterpiece…her creativity only continued upward with the matching video. Now, the “Mumbo Jumbo” artist enters 2019 with a new single titled “Only Child,” which see explained to Ebro Darden during a recent Apple Music/Beats 1 visit:

“It comes from different experiences that I’ve had. Like, dating a guy and knowing like, ‘Yo, this dude has to be an only child. He’s selfish, he always wants his way,’ …I just thought that would be a cool song topic.”
