UGK dropped Super Tight back in 1994 and (of course) its relevance can still be seen in hip-hop today, probably where you’d least expect it. Check out the album art. Don’t those aesthetics, the burnt red, almost burgundy, and yellow, remind you partly of Drake’s image on Take Care?

“Front, Back & Side to Side” off Super Tight is one of UGK’s best early jams, and if you go and purchase the tune on iTunes the audio will actually go “back, front, back, & side to side”. That’s nothing amazing by today’s standards, however back in 1994 it was a completely different picture. The South was busy innovating things the rest of the world (beyond just hip-hop enthusiasts) wouldn’t fully realize until Houston broke into the mainstream half a decade or so ago.
