The X Presidents Join Forces With J-Sw!ft For New Single “Pineapple Espresso”

The X Presidents release their new single “Pineapple Espresso” with a special feature from producer J-Sw!ft, formerly of The Pharcyde.

Produced by TXP, the track gives us the perfect blend of hip-hop and an edge of blues. The group consists of Khingz, Mic Flont, Matt Diamond and Mark Woodyard based out of Vancouver, Canada and neighboring US city Seattle. Bound to relax you, The X Presidents made the song with a certain weed and coffee combo in mind:

“The song is definitely inspired by our love for the herb!” – Mic Flont

Having toured around the US, Canada and Europe with J-Sw!1ft and the rest of Bizarre Ride (FatLip, SlimKid3, L.A. Jay and K-Natural), The X Presidents bonded with the former producer to create the new single. J-Sw!ft is known for his production work on the monumental Pharcyde album, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde. He is currently residing in Spain after being deported due to a felony conviction and is trying to raise funds to cover his legal fees.

New Music: Nicky D’s – “She Could Be”

What’s wrong with a throwback attitude? Nothing at all, as long as you step correct. On his latest single from the upcoming The Grey Area, Nicky D’s does just that. Rhyming over some good old, comfortable NY boom-bap–with Rick Hughes sampling The Pharcyde for the hook–Nicky D’s rhymes to an unseen potential lover with wit, charm, and earnest sentiment. As an MC, Nicky doesn’t overpower or overreach, he rides the beat like a comfortable veteran, letting the simplicity of his message strike with clarity. It’s not hard to picture Nicky dropping some of these lines to a girl on the street. At first, the attempt might seem corny, but Nicky‘s laid back, yet confident maneuvering of his sentences–“I can tell by your smile that your mind’s made up / So I’ma steal your heart just to boost the crime rate up”–could win over audiences of all types.

RESPECT. Your Elders: The Pharcyde – “Ya Mama”

If you’ve never heard of rap legends The Pharcyde, it’s not that you’ve been living under a rock — you were probably just born after 1996. Either way, the alternative West Coast foursome’s debut album Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde featured some of the most conversational and complex lyrics of 1991. It included hits such as “Passin Me By,” “Pack the Pipe,” “Officer,” and “Ya Mama.”

From the hopeless romantic, to the blazing burnout, there’s a song for everyone on Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde. Specifically, the Pharcyde kicks out an anthem for all the inner-city jokers and clowns with their track “Ya Mama.” Sampling the famous ’70s jam “Synthetic Substitution” by Melvin Bliss, Imani, Slimkid3, Bootie Brown and Fatlip bring a comedic feel to a classic break, spitting line after line of “Ya Mama” jokes. (Sidebar: Remember this?) If your mom actually has a peg leg with a kick stand, snakeskin teeth, or a midget growing on her back, we sincerely thank her for being the muse for such a hilarious song, and our dearest condolences go out to you and your family.
