Chicago rapper and producer Tree is the pioneer of soul trap, a hybrid sound that’s thematically a melange of soul’s nourishing hope and trap’s unforgiving ambition. For the instrumentals, Tree combines soul samples with trap elements, resulting in beats that are simultaneously good for slow dancing and turning up.
