<p>Is street art being challenged by <strong>Galaxy Art</strong>?<strong><a href="http://paglen.com/"> Trevor Paglen</a></strong> is an American artist, geographer and author who had a crazy idea: <strong>“experimental geography.”</strong> In the past five years he picked 100 images and saved them onto a space-bound time capsule to be sent out in the galaxy, wondering: &#8220;Will aliens see your <strong>Paul Klee</strong>?”</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://respect-mag.com/galaxy-art-wacky-or-lovely/screen-shot-2012-09-30-at-9-46-22-pm/" rel="attachment wp-att-49538"><img decoding="async" data-attachment-id="49538" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2012/10/galaxy-art-wacky-or-lovely/screen-shot-2012-09-30-at-9-46-22-pm/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Screen-Shot-2012-09-30-at-9.46.22-PM.png?fit=996%2C667&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="996,667" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="GALAXY ART" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Screen-Shot-2012-09-30-at-9.46.22-PM.png?fit=996%2C667&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Screen-Shot-2012-09-30-at-9.46.22-PM.png?fit=640%2C428&amp;ssl=1" class=" wp-image-49538 aligncenter" title="GALAXY ART" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Screen-Shot-2012-09-30-at-9.46.22-PM.png?resize=650%2C480" alt="" width="650" height="480" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p>The communication satellite <strong>EchoStarXVI</strong> will be launched into space from <strong>Kazakhstan</strong> this October.  It will reach an eventual orbit of about 24,000 miles above the equator. The satellite will have a silicon disk covered in a gold-plated aluminum jacket nano-etched (What?). Basically, a disc will be sent from the Earth with 100 images into the nothingness of the galaxy in the hope that a foreign life form will one day find it. Hopefully, aliens will use it as a historical informant and analyze those artifacts like we once analyzed  cave drawings in <strong>Lascaux</strong>, <strong>France</strong>. The satellite’s lifespan is approximately five billion years—  <strong><em>The Last Pictures</em></strong> might just be the last ones.</p>
