Taking a route akin to “All Falls Down,” Dizzy Wright‘s “The Perspective” is a rumination on why and how our generation slid into a deep self-obsession. Dizzy really shows off his wisdom, not just in being able to break down each piece of what’s wrong (the opening line, “Everything she do strategic” is loaded with level-headed analysis of the average “Instagram girl”) but in doing so without being mean-spirited or dismissive. “The Perspective” is surprisingly fair, even as it expresses distaste for the selfie-obsessed lifestyle: “I told her I wasn’t a fan but I understand just who you are / Do yo’ thang / I’m a man of flaws and I ain’t finna judge you for your ways.” This is a cut above what normally passes for progressive thinking, this is real human relation.

New Mixtape: Dizzy Wright – The Golden Age

Dizzy Wright has released his highly anticipated mixtape The Golden Age. The Las Vegas rapper is joined by a few of his Funk Volume label-mates and Wyclef Jean. The MC recently explained where much of the tape’s influence came from, saying “it was inspired, mainly, by the storytelling of the ’90s.” A few of our favorite tracks remain “The Flavor” featuring SwizZz (prod by 6ix), a high-energy track that will most definitely be stuck in your head for hours, and “Cant Stop Wont Stop,” which was early indication that the project would be a huge step for the Dizzy. “We Turned Out Alright” has a different sound than the other tracks–its crooner vibe is a serious departure, and Wyclef‘s contribution brought the track to a new level. If you like classic hip-hop, you will definitely dig this tape. Give The Golden Age a listen and download below.

New Video: Dizzy Wright – “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop”

Dizzy Wright has released a fresh new music video from his upcoming mixtape, The Golden Age, droping August 19th. The Funk Volume MC utilizes mostly behind-the-scenes, minimalist footage from his typical day(s) for “Cant Stop Wont Stop.” The video was shot and directed by Geeezy Productions. It seems that Dizzy shot the video while he was in New York for the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival (see photo above) as indicated by his outfit. Check out the video below.
