Over the weekend Dee-1 dropped the first release off his upcoming mixtape, The Focus Tape, with help from hip-hop staples Mannie Fresh and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def for those who grew up with him). “The Very Best” certainly has the name to live up to its billing, but the features really solidify its standing as the lead track off this project. The beat on this joint sounds tailor-made for Mannie Fresh, and to that end the production on this cut really sticks with you after a cursory listen. To put it bluntly, this is some feel good shit coming from the New Orleans-bred Dee-1. The Focus Tape drops on October 9th, so here’s hoping that you’re ready, willing and able to check it out come time. In the meanwhile, be sure to check out the track below.
