Having grown up in the Bronx, YC The Cynic has cut his teeth in New York City’s open mic scene for years. Cultivating a small but fiercely loyal fan base, YC was able to raise over $5000 for a Kickstarter campaign to fund his upcoming album with producer Frank Drake, GNK due out this summer. Today, he is premiering his second single off the upcoming project, a song titled “Molotovs At Poseidon.”

The video was directed by AaronIsNotCool who’s known for his close work with westcoast veteran emcee Blu. The video was shot in one take, with no cuts and no edits.

This rap duo from the Bronx is responsible for one of the biggest hip hop records in the 1990’s, “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby).” Originally, the two were known as The Gunrunners, but this was later changed to a combination of each of their stage names, Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz. Their only album, Make It Reign, came in 1998 through Columbia Records. The album featured popular artist such as Cam’ron, Big Pun, Fat Joe, Blackstreet, Jermaine Dupri, and Jagged Edge.

“Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” was the lead single off the album, scoring the group a number four spot on the Billboard Top 100 chart, a certified platinium plaque and three remixes including a Bad Boy remix with Puff Daddy, Mase, and The LOX. The track samples the intro of “Amores Como El Nuestro” by Jerry Rivera and the instrumental of “Black Cow” by Steely Dan. Following their debut album the group disbanded in 1999. Though never releasing another album, Peter Gunz’ music legacy is continued on through his son, Cory Gunz, a rapper currently signed to Young Money.
