Equally gifted at crafting energetic bangers and thoughtful meditations on life, Teammate Markus deals strictly with the latter in his moody new video for “Drunk As Me.”

The melodic track stems from the Tempe, AZ rapper’s latest release, last year’s stellar Prices LP, and it truly shows off the diversity of his skill set. He seamlessly moves from sing-song batches of wisdom and swift flows throughout “Drunk As Me,” which is expertly produced by Blodge in addition to Harry Mars (who handled the entirety of Prices).

Just as the track offers a moment of contemplation on Prices, the video provides Markus with a visual opportunity to showcase his depth. He’s a young man clearly affected by the struggles faced by independent artists—mainly the decision of whether it’s worth pressing on when it seems like everything (and everyone) is against you. As anyone who watches “Drunk As Me” will surely attest, we absolutely hope Markus continues creating and sharing his art.

After releasing several notable projects over the past few years, Teammate Markus shares his most impressive and remarkably produced effort to date with Prices. It serves as the rising Tempe, Ariz. rapper’s full-length debut and, fittingly, captures everything you’d want from an artist in his first proper showing.

That being said, Markus’ previous releases allowed for growth and maturation, because while still young, there’s a weight to the emcee’s words throughout this record. And you hear it right from the jump with “We Out Here,” a magnetic and energetic opening cut that he’s been playing live recently to the joy of his crowds.

“It really sets the tone for the whole record,” Markus says of “We Out Here,” while adding that other personal Prices standouts include “About You” and “Cup of Tea.” The former is a surprising slab of funk, fueled by Markus’ fun vocals and producer Harry Mars’ bright instrumentation. “Cup of Tea,” which received the video treatment, is also fun, but in more of a stunt-on-your-haters type of way.

Harry Mar’s bright instrumentations provides the lush canvas for the entirety of Prices, and that becomes evident with each track that plays on the album. He and Markus are a natural duo—they also play together in the band Without Feeling Weird—and like-minded studio rats. That, too, is evident when you hear a cut like “Drunk As Me,” which boasts thoughtful production from Mars and world-weary wisdom from Markus.

“My goal for this record is to really make a statement,” Markus says of Prices. “I want people to know that in our little corner of the valley we are making music at a seriously high level, and I want people to feel as proud of it as I do.”

Tempe, Ariz. rapper Teammate Markus is getting his New Year poppin’ in a big way with the release of his new video for his latest banger, “Cup of Tea.”

The track’s title, much like everything that we see in this clip, is a play on the idea of certain things being someone’s “cup of tea.” For Markus, that means hanging out with a fine lady (in this case, it’s professional dancer Ashli Bear in some black lingerie), stunting with your crew wherever possible, and living life to its fullest while you still can. And capturing it all is the duo of TIMO & KLVG, who grasp the liveliness of the song with swift cuts and edits.

“Cup of Tea,” which is produced by Harry Mars, stems from the Southwestern artist’s forthcoming debut LP, Prices. It serves as the follow-up to last year’s acclaimed The Man Behind The Curtain project, and if “Cup of Tea” is any indication, Prices should be Markus’ strongest work yet.
