TayWill is a fresh face in music, who is ready to make a wave for Seattle, WA. Coming off the release of a well-received release, featuring Tory Lanez, the rising rapper is gearing up to release a project of his own. We sat down with him to discuss his latest single Pull Up On Ya premiered exclusively by us, as well as his background in music.

RESPECT.: How did you get your start in the rap game coming from a city like Seattle, what’s the climate of rap music in your city?

I started writing poetry in elementary school to impress the hunnies writing love notes and shit, and I was in a talent show at Delridge Community Center out here and we preformed Big Pimpin’. I think I was 10 years old back in summer of 99′.

That joint was so fire that I was inspired to start rhyming. From there, the poetry turned into raps and I started hopping in cyphers at school, then in the streets; just wanted niggas to hear me flow. I think the current climate of music in my city is good, I feel like a lot of people here make regional music; there’s a large collective of people who make that dark gloomy rap.

I don’t know if it’s reflective of the weather or what, and rest make hypebeast rap like just trying to sound like whatever they think is hot. But there’s a lot of talent out here, we just haven’t had the national spotlight yet.

RESPECT.: Who were some of your musical influences during your youth? What albums had the biggest impact in molding you as an artist?

My parents introduced me to music at an early age, my dad was always playing Jazz, P Funk, Luther Vandrossand when I was young Death Row was really poppin especially out here being on the west coast so he had me listening to a lot of that, as well as music that was nostalgic to his youth so a lot of EPMD, ACTQ, Rakim, NWAas well. And my mom was strictly R&B and Soul a lot of Earth, Wind & Fire, Sade, R Kelly, Jodeci and I think that’s where I developed my love for melodies. I think Tupac All Eyez On Me, Biggie Life After Death, Nas It Was Written, Common Be, Lupe Fiasco Food & Liquor, Jay Z Black Album those albums really inspired me musically and then as I got older Future and Cudi provided some good influence as well.

RESPECT.: Recently you’ve worked with rising superstar Tory Lanez, what was the process behind that?

So two years ago I came up with the idea to start this touring/entertainment company with some individuals from my city we were planning to bring Tory out but before we could do it together they snaked my out my own company, but I knew he was coming before the rest of the city knew Chixtape was out and he was on YG’salbum but he wasn’t that known then but I knew dude would blow up and I knew he was dope so I reach out to son like yo I got some bread for you, let’s make this happen.

I sent some music his was and he felt it and I booked the studio for the night and after his show we laid down some heat. And on the low, between me and you, I got another one in the stash that’s way harder than the first one.

RESPECT.: You’re releasing your latest single, “Pull Up On Ya” right now, how did this record come together?

So I was listen to that Mary J. Blige and Kim record I Can Love You and I was like I wanna flip this I sent the track to my guy he flipped it I told him what part to chop. And I wrote the hook recorded a reference track because I’m song writer as well and I sent it to LuvKush and they sung my reference and the rest is history.

RESPECT.: After the success of your current single, what are your plans as an artist to finish out 2016?

I’m dropping this project Vanguard Music and dropping one more single and hopefully a few visuals as well before the end of Q4.

I have about 3 albums worth of material in the stash so come Q1 2017 I’m on niggas heads dropping so music new music. And also I’m doing song writing for some people and helping my artist Demise Blue finish his upcoming project.

RESPECT.: What have been some of your favorite releases in 2016 so far? Do you feel like it was a strong year for hip hop?

Definitely, that Tory Lanez record is one of them, but Oh Lord is probably my favorite. I feel like that record was kinda slept on.

I got this joint on my project that’s produced by Syksense called A Moment in Time; which is so fire to me and very introspective, that’s definitely one of my favorites as well.

I think it’s been a great year for Hip-Hop. ‘Ye dropped a good album, Drake dropped a classic, Isaiah Rashad,Tory Lanez, YG, Schoolboy all dropped fire albums as well, and of course I got something crazy on the way.

Make sure ya’ll check out “Pull Up On Ya” by TAYWILL, and be on the lookout for his upcoming project, Vanguard Music.
