There is no question that some of the keys to success in this world include hard work, dedication and perseverance; and it is these skills that Toronto-born hip-hop/R&B artist Syph has been mastering during the preparation of his long-awaited debut “Rookie of the Year”.

With catchy hooks, clever wordplay, and street smart lyrics, Syph uses his music to tell both the tales of life’s hardships and shortcomings along with the triumphs of true hard work and dedication. Influenced by the likes of 50 Cent, Wu-Tang and early-Lil Wayne amongst others – Syph is ready to put his mark on game in hopes of one day becoming a household staple.

I grew up surrounded by music,” says Syph about his childhood. “My dad being a drummer, my mom singing and always playing the classics; the Michael Jackson’s, The Isley’s, the Al Green’s – my sisters always into the R&B; Jodeci, New Edition, Baby Face , stuff like that – so music played a big role in my household.

Syph’s work ethic is unparalleled and his growth thus far musically in the time leading up to his debut is a true testament to that. Syph’s strong songwriting capability and infections melodies have allowed him to gain the attention of thousands, a number he plans on increasing to the millions.

SYPH goes straight to the source in “Off The Boat.” Sauga City native SYPH’s uprising has been an enigmatic one. While his impressive “Rookie Of The Year” project still makes it’s rounds through the digital world, SYPH enlists Smoke Dawg for a simplistically grabbing visual for “Off The Boat.” His brand of drowned-out, melodic-trap creates a sonic energy that’s catchy, yet an authentic take of the streets. “Off The Boat” makes it’s own mark in a time where drug-like records invade every corner of the internet, crafting a visual demonstration of what he has to offer as a lyricist and songwriter. “I get it straight off the boat/I don’t give a f*ck bout no hoe/my b*tch be whippin the dope” is a fairly summarizing hook in relation to the record’s concept, (and obviously the video’s treatment) but OTB shows range; a musical depth which adds a dimension of notoriety to a rising force such as SYPH. As Toronto seems to be a focal point and formidable breeding ground of forging new sounds and trends alike, SYPH and his Nu Money Gang imprint is quickly rising trough the ranks of Canadian standouts. Smoke Dawg’s gritty verse blends perfectly with SYPH’ s narrative and paired with the straight forward, clean grace of Zac Facts’ direction, “Off The Boat” acts as a catalyst to the notable growth of Toronto’s underdog.

As if “Rookie Of The Year” wasn’t enough, SYPH and Tory Lanez cook up a visual for “Pull Up.” The Toronto connection sets the stage for a crooning, infectious melody where SYPH and Lanez deliver their cross-brand of singing and bars, filling the frame with exotic cars, women, and their homies; great elements for an up-tempo record with this energy. Canada seems to be emerging as Hip-Hop’s breeding ground and SYPH intends to keep it that way. Pull up.
