The books were released in 1981 (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), 1984 (More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) and 1991 (Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones). The series consisted of short stories based on folklore and legend, accompanied by illustrations by Stephen Gammell. It’s sold more than 7 million copies worldwide.

Del Toro is developing the film and may possibly direct it. The books are Guillermo’s favorite novels from his youth, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he did choose to direct the film. His talent and incredible eye for all things horror will most certainly bring these stories to life. If the development of this film stays on track, we may see this film hit the silver screen in late 2018. Around Halloween possibly? Del Toro currently has four films (including Hellboy 3) and two television series and on his plate, along with an exhibit featuring his creative process through his collection of paintings, drawings, maquettes, artifacts, and concept film art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

All I know is that I am extremely excited to have Guillermo Del Toro behind this film, as I am not only a fan of his work but of the series of books as well.
