Donning the cover of this month’s issue, athlete Serena Williams has been named the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year. After the successful year she’s had, Williams definitely deserves the recognition. Winning three Grand Slams and the majority of all her matches, the tennis player is the first woman to be given the title since 1983.

Sports Illustrated recently caught up with Pusha T to discuss his love of tennis and other sports. The NBA came up in the conversation and Pusha was quick to express his displeasure with the new “super teams” in the league.

“[T]hese days, we have LeBron have a 60-plus-win season with Cleveland, then he goes to a team that’s already made their mark. I just feel like you can love the players, but you can’t honestly love the team, the franchise, like you once could because of all the musical chairs.”

He went on to say that he longs for the play of the 80s and 90s when Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and others were trying to be better than one another, not join together.

“These guys were such warriors. These guys were really trying to be the best. And they knew that they had the talent to take their team, whatever shortcomings their team had, they would make up for it with their greatness.”
