With the 2020 NFL draft looking more like Madden NFL Franchise mode mixed with a Zoom meeting; most scouts have to rely on previous film and combine numbers to evaluate players. Jalen Hurts is without a doubt one of the most battled-tested Quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft. He has a ton of experience playing starting Quarterback for two elite blue chip programs in Alabama and Oklahoma with several College football playoff births and a National Championship added to his resume. Yet he still has a lot of doubters coming through the draft process.

Emory Hunt, a pro football analyst and creator of the website The football game plan website disagrees with the assessment of most scouts not only to the point of if Hurts can play the position but where he should be positioned in the draft. I interviewed Hunt on the HouseOfBoom Podcast and here is what he had to say about Hurts.

Respect: There are a few good QB coming out this year who do you think is going to be the first Qb taken this year?

Hunt: Probably Burrow but if I had to grade these guys it would be Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, and then Tua Tagovailoa that would be my top 3

Respect: What do you see as a good situation for somebody like Jalen Hurts?

Hunt:: I think anybody who wants to win.. New England is one Pittsburgh would be a great spot. I think Cincinnati if they really wanted to smart with the picks. They have the number one pick they can take Chase Young and they know people will not take Jalen hurts in the first round and they can come back in the second round with that first pick and take him there for they come away with Chase young and Jalen Hurts. Those types of situations I think would be great for him.

Respect: If they get Jalen Hurts who do you see them (Cincinnati) signing? Would a journeyman quarterback or someone with experience (be it) if that scenario played out?

Hunt: I wouldn’t even worry about getting a veteran just starting Jalen Hurts. He has played a lot of football at two major programs. I think he is battle tested and ready to hit the ground running.

Respect: what do you think the real knock on his is, I think the Oklahoma movie was smart I think he showed he could be a better passer. When he was at Alabama the coach did what smart coaches do and built around his strengths so he wasn’t called to grow per se but what do you think?

Hunt: You hit the nail on the head man it just about having a guy who can play and allowing him to get better and he got humbled at Alabama but when they needed him to step back in and win with his arm he was able to do that then he transferred over to Oklahoma and became a Heisman finalist. This is a program that had back to back Heisman winners and he put up equal if not better numbers then the other two guys so he is ready to go in my opinion so there shouldn’t be a knock on Jalen Hurts.

Beyond the subject, Jalen Hurts we also talked about how COVID-19 is affecting the NFL draft and the crazy Free agency signing of the new league year and a way too early look at the 2020 NFL season.

++++—–++++++++++
