Hailing from the unforgiving climate of the Southwest, Tucson-based Hip Hop group Jivin’ Scientists have unveiled a short film titled, “Thirsty,” a three-song montage featuring “Crazy,” “Million Man Army” and “20 on the Chiefs” from the trio’s 2015 album of the same name.

Produced by the Albuquerque, New Mexico-based creative company Concept Flux, the nearly 12-minute video serves as both a thought-provoking short film and also a music video aimed at taking the viewer on a journey through a broken relationship.

Director Phillip Torres tapped into emerging technologies like projection mapping and depth sensors to create the film, two tools that are virtually unheard of in the music industry.

The story starts with emcee James “Runt” Owens falling through white space, which can be interpreted as his memory, and then lands in a truck that takes him to an undisclosed drop off. Along the way, he raps in the back of the truck bed as he’s juxtaposed with the imagery of him lying in bed with his former love. Eventually, the viewer sees the lover disappear into particles and fade away, just as she did from his life.

“Technically, we wanted to capture the love scenes in a more subjective way so they would mesh well with the digital scenes,” Torres explains. “We projection mapped onto the subjects faces to get the cool effect and then we used VFX to make her disappear.”

The next scene in the film shows Owens getting picked up in the desolate desert by a ’59 Impala, which uses projection mapping and rear projections to make it more visually enticing.

Although Owens insists he “writes fiction,” he delivers his lyrics like it’s something he’s lived, leading the viewer to believe he’s experienced every heart-wrenching emotion the film depicts.

At one point or another, we have all found ourselves in situations where we wanted something, got it and then perhaps realized that maybe it wasn’t what we needed, after all. Apollo Mighty gets that, thus providing us with the premiere of his latest album, The Great Divide, which is also accompanied by a short film, of the same name.

The Great Divide offers ten all-new songs from Apollo, which vividly paint a picture of the aforementioned ideology and scenarios presented. With all production being handled by UK producer Lewis Cullen, and guest spots from Notty Taylor, Kelsey Bogard, and fellow Memphis native Daz Rinko, The Great Divide aptly serves as an intrinsic musical experience.

If you are one of those who likes to envision music as you listen to it, you are in for a visual treat as The Great Divide short film provides endless imagery — thanks to the lens of Mike Brown — and features every song from the project.

After the release of numerous singles and videos (which can be found right here on RESPECT.) The Great Divide is here for our listening and viewing pleasure. Press play and enjoy.

Featuring an orginal soundtrack supplied by the artist, this black-and-white effort encapsulates various facets of the country from the peacefulness of Kyoto to the fast-paced city life of Toyko, while giving us hypnotic kaleidoscopic feels.

King Los compliments his “God Money War” album with an accompanying short film. Los’ “God Money War” (Which is currently #2 on the iTunes Hip-Hop chart and 8th overall) is the Baltimore wordsmith’s major label debut through RCA. Through his industry ups and downs, Kind Los’ unparalleled rhyme schemes and wordplay have have allowed him to shine and “GMW” is a direct reflection of artistic struggle and victory. The Short film is a manifested, coming of age introspection through the optic of inception and growth, both as a man, father, rhymer and artist. The short’s black and white texture adds impact to the experience, capturing the main energy of the album, giving the viewer a deeper look into the transformation. A king is born.
